Another
example of WUSA's positive effect on the "old boy" Football Federations around
the world
The English F.A. has announced that research has confirmed that there is a potential
audience of families and watchers of men's games to support the establishment
of a women's professional football league. The F.A. go on to say that "groups
in the women's game" felt that the F.A. was the only organization that would
be able to protect the values and ideals of the women's game from being overtaken
by commercialism. No mention anywhere as to the identification of "the groups"
or if there were any women players in the "groups." more
Surely such self serving pomposity must have them rolling in the aisles in the UK considering the past performance of the F.A. In regard to commercialism, and its record concerning the women's game.
The F.A. Is devising a marketing plan , and commissioning "studies into professional leagues here and overseas." Information that has been available (and published by WSW) for several years but apparently not known to the staff at the F.A. The timetable is to take their marketing plan by March 2001 to the Leagues and Fulham F.C., which as reported here recently is the only professional team in English women's soccer. They hope to go looking for media and commercial support by summer.
