Brazil's success is no surprise for readers from the 85 countries who log on to Women's Soccer World

Brazil prepared well for this First under-19 World Championship, and their success so far is no surprise to those who have followed their training program in the WSW news. At the beginning of March last year they announced that they would hold a Brazilian U-19 club championship for the express purpose of finding their best U-19 players. That tournament was won by Vasco and a National U-19 pool was chosen at the end of the month. They began training in the Training Center of Brazil (Granja Company) played their first game together in April. The training continued through 2001 and twelve under-18 players traveled as part of the twenty-six member National Team to North Korea for the Four Nations Tournament. In the twelve months leading up to this tournament Brazil won the World University Championship. With all of the economic problems in Brazil plus the football financial scandals through the country it would be a real lift for the Brazilians if they could add to their success in winning the 2002 Men’s World Cup.

Look for them to be one of the top five favorites in FIFA 2003 World Cup in China.
