Our view of the
opening matches in the 2005 UEFA Championship Final
Plenty of ragged games in the first
round but the quality of play should improve now that opening match nerves are
behind everybody.
Germany, Sweden, and France looked the best prepared and organized in their
opening matches. Norway , Denmark , and Finland were close behind and showed
that they knew what was required to win and played accordingly. Host England
never acquired any sort of rhythm in their play with plenty of long ball kicking,
and Italy looked as if they had never played together before.
