Our view of quarter-final matches
Friday, August 20, 2004
Match No. 13 in Pampeloponnisiako Stadium, Patras at 18:00 hrs. local time (11:00 hrs. E.T.)
Germany vs. Nigeria
The Germans have seen a lot of Nigeria who spent their pre-Olympic preparation playing in Germany, so no surprises here for the 2003 World Cup Champions.
Match No. 14 in Kaftanzoglio Stadium, Thessalonika at 18:00 hrs. local time.
USA vs. Japan
Should again be the best game of the group to watch. Japan will be another tough opponent to play at this stage, the U.S. will need its speedy young players to come up big in this match. Japan has had five days rest against two for the USA because of the crazy scheduling following the decision to have ten teams in the tournament.
If you all thought that the FIFA motto was "FAIR PLAY" you must be as deluded as they are.
Match No. 15 in Pankrito Stadium, Heraklio at 21:00 hrs. local time.
Mexico vs. Brazil
Will be interesting to see how Brazil will cope with Mexico's defensive game since the Brazilians have such an array of young players able to move the ball around quickly and accurately. Good experience for the Mexican players but they will be outplayed.
Match No. 16 in Panthessaliko Stadium, Volos at 21:00 hrs. local time.
Sweden vs. Australia
If the real Sweden team shows up they have too much skill and organization for the Matildas. This is a match between the top two physical style teams at this tournament.
