Russia's Premier League - organisation and teams

The first championship
of Russia was held in 1992. Now there are nine teams in the premier league.
This year they will be competing for the 10th Russian championship. There
is also a Russia Cup Championship.

The season began at the end of April, 2001 and it will be finished in
November, 2001. There will be 2 rounds and a 5 team playoff.
The strongest teams
in the Russian premier league have been TNK-Ryazan (a town in the Moscow
region), Energy of Voronezh (a big city in the center of Russia) and CSK
VV of Samara (a city on the banks of the river Volga).

League championship in 1999,2000;
Third in 1997, 1998;
Russian Cup winner in 1998.
Energy, Voronezh

Won the Russian League championship in 1995, 1997, 1998;
Second in 1994, 1996, 1999, 2000;
Russian Cup winner in 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000.
According to the rules there are two final matches for the Cup.
In 1998 Energy won the home game against TNK Ryazan 3-1. Later, because
of the disqualification of some players from Energy the team didn't travel
to Ryazan and received a technical defeat (3-0, TNK-Ryazan). TNK Ryazan
became the Cup holder. After that the disqualification was announced unlawful
but the game wasn't repeated and the Cup of Russia stayed with Ryazan
in 1998.
CSK VVS, Samara

Won the Russian League Championship in 1993, 1994, 1996;
Scond in 1992, 1995, 1997, 1998;
Russian Cup winner in 1994.
Russian teams usually
use Russian native players or players from ex-soviet republics (now independent
states). Only Energy invited American goal-keeper Erin Fahey, who is in
one of the goalkeepers of Washington Freedom.
One of the best strikers in Russian championship is Ms Nadejda Bosikova
16/06/1972 (Energy). She has been the top goal scorer in the last 7 years:
1994 31 goals;
1995 37 goals;
1996 39 goals;(the record in Soviet and Russian male and female
soccer)
1997 21 goals;
1998 18 goals;
1999 23 goals;
2000 30 goals.
During her career she has scored 216 goals.
