of 3rd Aegean Cup - August ,18-20th Olympus, Greece

The
University of Connecticut won the 3rd Aegean Cup, which took place under
Mount Olympus beside the Aegean Sea . It was a great experience for
the European teams to play against a high level U.S. University like
UConn .
For
UConn this tournament was a preparation for the season and a great opportunity
to see Greek historical places like Mount Olympus , Dion, Athens Acropolis,
Thessaloniki White tower and Alexander the Great . Also to meet players
from other soccer cultures and especially to enjoy Greek sea and sun.
UConn
Head Coach Len Tsantiris was pleased to be in his birth place and thought
that the Aegean Cup was a good tournament to start their preparation.
He also thanked the organizing commitee for the great hospitality.

Olympiada'96 wins the First Greek Cup beating
Hfaistos Peristeri 2-0 in the Final on Sunday May, 28

The President of the Greek Football Federation was present for first
time at a women's soccer game as Olympiada'96 won the First Greek Cup
in front of 1000 spectators.

Maria Gianakopoulou from Hfaistos had eleven (11) shots inside the penalty
area!!!
Olympiada with only 3 shots won the Cup.
Scorer Mayroudaki took off her shirt after each goal, like Chastain in
World Cup '99.

Filiriakos Florina is the Greek champion for the first time in its history.
A team from a small town near the Yugoslavia border managed to win the
Greek Championship after a strong fight against Olympiada '96.
