China defeated by Holland in the 21st Universiade Jia Ailing China were defeated 5-4 by Holland in the quarterfinals of the 21st Universiade on Monday. Holland created several opportunities after the kick off. Facing their tight defense, China head coach Ma Yuanan sent on Pan Lina to replace Ren Liping in the 39th minute. Six minutes later, the forward Zhang Ouying was tackled by Holland defender and midfielder Pu Wei broke the deadlock with a penalty. Holland equalized in the second half after a fatal mistake made by a China defender and goalkeeper. In the penalty kick off, China midfielder Pan Lina and Zhou Xiaoxia's shots were saved by Holland goalkeeper and the visitors won 5-4 . "The players are too nervous to show their real skill level," Head Coach Ma Yuanan said after the match, "I take responsibilty for the loss."
In other matches yesterday, Korea beat Japan 6-5and France defeated Poland 7-6 with penalty. Although controlling the match on the field, North Korea was routed 3-1 by Brazil. Four winners enter the semi finals.
