Spacey Brace helps Arsenal to another trophy

Colin Aldis

Arsenal, still on course for a domestic treble, lifted the first cup of the season, the FA Premier League Cup, when they beat Tranmere Rovers 3-0 at the Deva Stadium, home of Chester City FC on Sunday April, 1 2001.

After a lacklustre first half, one of Englands finest strikers Marieanne Spacey, just before the hour, struck twice in a minute
to kill off the stubborn resistance of the young Rovers team.

Angela Banks, who is well on course to lift the Premier League top goalscorer award, added another one to cement the win.

Arsenal now will play Doncaster Belles, home and away in the league. It is likely that the two matches will decide who will win the league trophy, with the added incentive of a place in the 1st UEFA clubs tournament.

On May 7th, Arsenal playsFulham, in the AXA sponsored FA Cup Final, to be held at Crystal Palace FC.
