Chinese Women's Super Cup 1999 was played between the Shanghai and Beijing teams in Wuxi city located at South-east China on 4th,December.

The game attracted over twenty five thousand fans. Some top officials from the Chinese Football Federation were present. After the league ended this year, the Beijing side had been training at the camp of a men's professional football club near to Beijing in preparation for the Super Cup. It was obvious that Beijing intended to defeat Shanghai to secure all of this year's Championships. Meanwhile, the Shanghai side was doing much less preparation than her opponent.
Chen Jianxin from Beijing side scored the opening just 4th minute from the beginning. But Beijing turned to defense after that. WWC'99 star Sun Wen equalized for Shanghai in 30th minute.Ten minutes later a world class 30-meters free kick from Sui Qingxia helped Shanghai to lead with 2-1.It is the third time we have seen an excellent free kick from this former national team player this year. In 71th minute Sun Wen collected the ball from Sui's free kick in the vital area and headed into the Beijing's goal directly. Although Liu Ying,the player of this season scored another goal from a corner in the last minute from the end, Shanghai was the winner of this game and recognized as the strongest team in China.

More people than before have paid attention to women soccer this season, but it's difficult to see any young promising players in the games. All
national team players still have firm hold on the top positions of in their teams, even when
they are not in top form. Meanwhile the big difference between the top three teams and the other
teams is another problem of Chinese women's soccer. After the Sydney Olympics, the Chinese National
team will face the problem replacing of some of the team.

The last round of the league this season ended quietly. There were
few pictures of the games shown in the sports programme of CCTV. It seemed that most of teams were tired of playing. Beijing even left all of their national team players including the top keeper at home. Although WWC star Sun Wen from Shanghai flew to Sichuan with her team, she stayed on the bench for the last 4 rounds because of her leg injury.Ten minutes from the end striker Guo Pin equalized for the home team through a free kick .However Sichuan could not score a winning goal against Shanghai.

Even though the Shanghai team had already lost a chance to retain their title in the last round they escaped their depression. ShandongÁs defence looked so weak in front of Shanghai's strong attack. With the support of 5,000 fans crowded into at Songjiang stadium located at a county of Shanghai ,Shanghai showed everyone present how to shoot, as they made a

Match report
The last round of this season was played in advance this Wednesday. In fact this match was regarded as the final for the championship. Before the match famous Chinese film director Xie Jin appeared at the training field of the Shanghai team and disclosed that he will shoot a film about Chinese women soccer players and invite WWC star Sun Wen to play the lead in the film.
When the game kicked off, Sun Wen and national team young midfielder Pu
Wei from Shanghai were left on the bench because of their injuries. The cross from veteran Liu Ailing helped Yan Xuhong to score the
opening for Beijing in 2nd minute of the first half. The play of
Shanghai was out of control for some time because of this unexpected
score. National team striker Jin Yan who missed at least two golden opportunities perhaps lost confidence in the penalty area. Beijing
dominated the first half. After the break,Shanghai began to recover
as the enthusiastic Beijing players seemed to tire. Shanghai
pushed their players into attacks. After wasting a lot of scoring
chances,former national team player Sui Qingxia who had come in as a
substitute shot past the Beijing keeper from the right to equalise in the 60th minute.
With that away draw, there is no doubt that the championship title of this season is in the pocket
of Beijing. They will be the Champions of Chinese women's league for the second time.

Young player Wu Chuan who played for the first time for Guangdong this

Chinese league leaders Beijing followed by Shanghai confirmed their title potential with an
impressive 7-0 win over visitor Sichuan. WWC star Sun Wen didn't play for her team this round and
watched from the stands because her left leg was injured in the training session before the match.
Veteran Wang Jingxia from Shanghai shocked all spectators with a powerful shot from 30 meters.
Guangdong side continued to be in good form, and Skipper Zhang Guilian kept Guangdong in third place
as they defeated Henan 2-0. It appears that Army always plays poorly in away games, and when they
met the bottom team Shandong they could only bring back one point with a 1-1 draw.
After 10th, October, the Chinese National Team will go to camp for one week in Beijing in preparation for next month's Asia Women's Soccer Championship. This month the Chinese National Team plans to play two friendly matches against the Brazil National Team in Xiamen city,Fujian province, and in Zhuhai city,Guangdong province.

When national team player Liu Ying appeared on the pitch, we noticed that Liu had changed her hair style to the same style as WWC Brazil's striker Sissi. In the first 45 minutes Hebei kept only striker Zhang Ouying in Beijing's half of the field.. Because of Hebei's solid defense the Beijing side got few chances to score, but early in the second half Liu Ying scored the opening goal for Beijing from outside the penalty area when young Chen Jianxing from the Beijing side was offside. The disputed goal caused a few minutes delay in the game. It was clear that it interfered with HebeiÁ's play. Beijing changed the score to 3-0 within ten minutes.With the victory no onewill stop Beijing side reaching the final Championship this season.

The Sichuan side moved the game to Shuangliu county near Chengdu city so that a larger audience could watch their match. Over twenty minutes after the game kicked off, Guangdong clamped down on Sichuan's attack. WWC star goalie Gao Hong who came back from Canada several weeks ago played once again after last round,but it seems that she was still out of form. According to Guangdong side coach LinÁ's assignment, national team left half back Zhao Lihong played in the defensive midfield, while Qiu Haiyan played as a forward. HE Xingxue from national team assisted the two strikers Zhang Guilian and Qiu Haiyan with excellent passes. Zhang Guilian completed her hat-trick for the 3-0 score in the second half.

It was difficult for Shanghai to accept the final result of an away 3-3 draw. In the first half time, visitor Shanghai took a 3-0 lead easily even though WWC star Sun Wen stayed on the bench. At that time there was no doubt that Shanghai would be the winner, but after the break Army looked like a different team. Twenty five minutes from the end, Army scored three goals miraculously. The draw moved the Shanghai side further away from the top spot in the league standings.

Guangdong side looked a better side than Beijing, but the final winner was Beijing.Most of attacks were made by Guangdong. It was clear that Beijind's aim an away draw. Excellent play of Guangdong team in last two rounds attracted many more spectators than before. Although former national team right half back Xie Caixia scored the opening goal for Guangdong early in the first half, Beijing got theirs with just two corner kicks. I met national team player HE Xingxue playing for Guangdong in Guangzhou which is the home of the Guangdong team. She said "We did well in this game and controlled midfield. Beijing seldom got a chance to shoot, but just two headers from Chen and Jin helped them to win. They were luckier than us.

Although Shanghai was held to an away draw in the first leg against
Henan,they didn't give them a chance in the return leg. Henan
did not have one shot in the game.Almost the whole match was played in the Henan half. After Sun Wen scored the second goal, the Shanghai team brought on a young player to replace her. After match Sun said to me " although there is four points differece between Beijing and Shanghai, I don't mind who will win the final championship. It is more important for women's soccer that more people love women's soccer and support it."

To prepare for the forthcoming Asian Women's Soccer Championship,the matches of the13th round were played in advance in the middle of this week. Beijing continued to lead the league with 22 points after Shandong suffered a humilating 8-0 away defeat, but unfortunately just over two hundred watched the game. In the meantime, Shanghai was held to a
scoreless away draw in front of the solid defense of Guangdong once again. It will not be easy for Shanghai to catch up with leader Beijing, unless Beijing makes mistakes in the next rounds.
Sichuan and Henan played a dull match. In the first half, there were few
shots from either side. The young offensive midfieldielder Zhao Xiaoyan scored the winner in the penalty area. She became top scorer of her team with 3 goals. Army National team full back Bai Jie scored two goals in a match for the second time.

This match moved to Kunming from Shanghai and was played before the due date. Heavy rain began before the match, but the nearly 25,000 people present created an attendance record. World Cup star Sun Wen appeared on the pitch, and headed the ball into the rival's net just over one minute
after kicking off. This early goal put the Guangdong side at a loss.In the 8th minute and then Sun Wen's brilliant pass helped forward Xiao Yan to break through Guangdong's defence to get an easy goal. Beijing controlled the whole game.National Team member Liu Ying made a solid hat trick, three goals in a row. There was no doubt that Shanghai would be the winner even before the match. Counter attack is the only playing-style of Sichuan who stay at second place from the bottom of the league. Although international star Sun Wen didn't play in this game because of injury, Shanghai humbled the visitor 4-0. To win this home game, Jin Yan played even though she had a fever. The Beijing side played an all-attacking game with the result that visiting Army made few shots. In 35th minutes of the first half, Liu Ying score the opener for the home team after the defence pushed out a goal-bound shot from Man Yanling. Eight minutes later the shot from Beijing succeeded once again With the victory, Beijing is still at the the top of league standing after 5 rounds. Host Henan dominated the match in front of a crowd of their supporters, but Hebei was fortunate. The nil score remained unchanged throughout the first half. After 23 minutes of the second half, substitute Han Lei broke away from her marker during their only counter attack and scored the winning goal. Hebei's iron defence was then unyielding. Henan was only home team that failed to win in this round.

3rd round results and standings of China Soccer League August 14, 1999 Match report Striker Mo Chenyue scored in the 29th minutes and Shanghai held
on to the lead for the rest of the half. The field was in terrible condition and made the game flat but after the break Shanghai kept their pressure on the host team.
With veteran Wang Jianxia's easy goals the young rivals lost any chances for an equalizer even though World Cup stars Wang Liping and Zhanying were in the Hebei starting line-up. There was just no way for them to win over such a strong opponent as Shanghai.

Guangdong's top players Zhao Lihong and Qiu Haiyan did their best to secure a win. Many fast breaks from the left flank were made by
Zhao, while Qiu with No.9 Jersey controlled the midfield,but young
striker Zhang Guilian was so unlucky. Excellent crosses from Zhao Liuhong
were missed one by one. If any of the veteran former international forwards Wei Haiying or Shi Guihong were still playing, their opponents would have been picking up the ball in net. Match Summary Chinese football association vice-president Wang Junsheng and Chinese
National Head Coach Ma Yuanan and assistant coach Li Bi came to watch
this match. The Beijing team now has six National Team players. It was
surprising that National Team keeper Gao Hong from Guangdong didn't
appear on the Guangdong starting line-up even as a substitute. According
to Guangdong's coach,Gao Hong didn't have any training in his team after
she came back from USA. One offical from Chinese Football Association
wouldn't disclose any further information about Gao,and told me this was
a private thing.
During the match,World Cup stars Liu Ailing,Liu Ying,Wen Lirong from
Beijing side and Zhao Lihong,Qiu Haiyan from Guangdong side appeared on
the pitch. Except for Liu Yingthe others were not in good form. Guangdong
side got several chance to shoot near the penalty area. My
friend, He Xingxue who played for the Chinese team and may be one of the
best offensive midfielders in China at this time didn't go to USA because
of her ankle injury,and this time didn't come to Beijing with her team.I'm
sure that if she could have played ,the result would have been different .HE
told me that at present there were many injuried players in Guangdong
teams.So this time only 16 Guangdong players came.
I believe that this is a difference between the USA and China. Chinese
players always live and train and play together.So they know well each
other.Meanwhile,they have no rest,no holiday,no reading time.So they are
often injuried and tired.
Beijing team dominated the match most of the time.Li Ying scored two
excellent goals in the first half.
After match,Zhao Lihong told me that she had two trainings in her team
from 15th to now and she felt so tired that all she wanted to do was to
have arest.
I watched the match in Shi Jingshan stadium that is 20 km far away from
downtown Beijing downtown..The capacity of the stadium is about ten
thousand spectators.

Although the result was nil to nil,Sun Wen attracted 10,000 spectators to
watch the match,and she was the star of this game.
During the match, Henan team had two defenders marking Sun. Because of
the hot day,it was not easy for the two teams to run for a long
time.Shanghai missed a few good chance to score.
