Match report
Sinclair created Canada’s first opportunity at the 16th. minute working the ball up the left side past two Dutch defenders, but shooteing wide of the net. Three minutes later Smith of the Netherlands had a chance with a shot at the net from the left side, but LeBlanc dove to gather the ball.
Melis looked dangerous for Holland four minutes before the end of the first half, but she was intercepted by three defenders within 10 yards of the goal. In the dying moment of the half Hooper received a pass then spun and shot but sent the ball directly into the hands of goalkeeper Wissink.
Canada came out strong in the second half with Schmidt hitting the ball just over the crossbar from the top of the penalty area early in the period, and late in the half Lang drove a 27-metre free kick punched out of play by the keeper.
With just five minutes left Neil saved the day for Canada when she tapped the ball into the net during a goalmouth melee.
