The first round of the African Championship and WWC 2003 qualifier) was completed Saturday, August 24th. Tanzania, Angola & Gabon all advance. The series between Mali & Ivory Coast ended up tied after both legs and the decision on who advances has yet to be determined.

Seven 2nd. round winners plus host Nigeria will be divided into two groups of four. The final tournament will take place in late November to early December. The winner and runner-up will advance to the 2003 Women's World Cup in China.
