The first round of the African Championship and WWC 2003 qualifier) was completed Saturday, August 24^th. Tanzania, Angola & Gabon all advance. The series between Mali & Ivory Coast ended up tied after both legs and the decision on who advances has yet to be determined.

Seven 2^nd. round winners plus host Nigeria will be divided into two groups of four. The final tournament will take place in late November to early December. The winner and runner-up will advance to the 2003 Women's World Cup in China.
