Korea upset China in East Asia Four-nations Tournament

By Jia Ailing

The hosts Korea sprung the first surprise of the East Asia Four-nations Tournament on Monday as An Jong-Goan's side defeated China 2-0. This is Korea’s first victory against China in the last 15 years.

Defender Li Jie's foul in the box gave the hosts a real opportunity to break the deadlock, and Korea took a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute with captain Han Jin-Sook's penalty kick. Substitute Park Eun-Jung clinched the hosts' victory with her wonderful heeled goal.

"The players looked so tired," China head coach Pei Encai said after the match, "Some of the young players felt the pressure and did not play up to their ability."

In the other match, DPRK beat Japan 1-0 with Lee's goal in the 37th minute.

China will play their next match against Japan on August 3rd.
