With the goals from Bai Lili and Teng Wei,the China National Team defeated Canada 2-1 in their first match of 2004 Four Nations Tournament. The Iron Roses exacted some revenge for a 1-0 loss to the opponents in the World Cup last year.

Head coach Zhang Haitao selected some rookies for the team and they showed their ability in the match. In the 15th minute, Bai Lili's long-range shot found the back of the net after a cross from Teng Wei. China took a 1-0 lead in the first half.

China maintained their advantage with Teng Wei's goal in the 51st minute. Canada scored their only goal by Veronique Maranda in injury time.

"I am satisfied with the players' performance," China head coach Zhang Haitao said after the match, "Each match is a test to the team and we must try our best to finish our job."

The midfielder Qu Feifei was named as player of the match.

In the other match of the tournament, USA ruined Sweden 3-0.
