February 15, 2005 China begins training in Sichuan By Jia Ailing After a six-day vacation the China National Team began training at Maojiawan camp in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province on Valentine's day. The China Football Association had originally planned to train the team at the Haigeng camp in Kunming. After the deputy head coach Wang Haiming had expressed concern about the altitude there making it difficult for players to recover energy quickly, the CFA agreed to change the training camp venue. Four players, Bi Shuai, Lou Xiaoxu, Zhang Mei and Bai Lifang, who played in the January Four-Nations Tournament are not in the squad because of injuries. To improve the attacking strength of the team Wang Haiming has added Li Nan, Wang Jian, and Zhao Xiaoyan to the roster. The central theme of the training camp will be attack and finishing. China will leave the camp on March 6th. and travel to Portugal for the upcoming Algarve Cup. |
