April 24, 2003 US Youth Soccer adidas All Stars lose to FCR Duisberg FCR Duisberg 2 US Youth Soccer adidas All Star team 1 April 23, 2003 - R.W. Oberhausen Stadium. Germany A brief defensive breakdown led to two goals in a two-minute span as a tough German Bundesliga squad, FCR Duisberg, rallied past the US Youth Soccer adidas All Star team. Midfielder Yael Averbuch (Upper Montclair, N.J.) gave the US Youth Soccer adidas All Stars a 1-0 lead off a set piece 18 minutes into the match. Averbuch, a US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) and New Jersey State Youth Soccer Association star, bent a direct free kick around the left side of the FCR Duisberg defensive wall for the goal. FCR Duisberg, who has never lost to an American team, tied the game 1-1 with an eight-yard blast in the 36th minute. US Youth Soccer adidas All Star team goalkeeper, Dana Hall (Kingwood, Texas), managed to get a glove to the ball, but could only deflect the hard shot into the goal side netting. FCR Duisberg scored again one minute later, this time with a shot placed perfectly in the upper left corner of the goal. The loss was a first for the US Youth Soccer adidas All Star team. The team continues its 10-day tour tomorrow against Dutch First Division squad, NEC-Nijmegen, and will conclude the European trip with a match on Sunday against German club, SG Essen-Schoenebeck.
