US Youth Soccer elected a new Vice-President and Secretary at 2001 Annual General Meeting

US Youth Soccer held its Annual General Meeting July 21 in Atlanta, Georgia at the Atlanta Hilton. The 2001 US Youth Soccer National Council metto discuss US YouthmSoccer business and to elect new members to the Board of Directors. Current US Youth Soccer Secretary Evelyn Gill of Lawrenceville, New Jersey was elected to the office of Vice President. Gill, prior to being on the Board of Directors of US Youth Soccer, served as the President of the New Jersey Youth Soccer Association from 1991-1993 and in 1994 served as the World Cup Public Information Director for the Meadowlands venue. "To be elected Vice-President of US Youth Soccer, a three million member organization that is dedicated to providing soccer at all levels to the children of this country, is an honor," Gill said. "My life work, both professionally and as a volunteer, has been focused on providing help and opportunity for young people. I feel fortunate that I can continue this work both as Vice President of US Youth Soccer and as a member of the US Soccer Federation Board of Directors."

Rich DeJana, currently President of the Montana Youth Soccer Association, was elected to the position of Secretary to fill the vacancy left byGill. DeJana has been involved in youth soccer in Montana for many years,holding positions as Vice President of Recreation, Vice President forCompetitive Soccer, and chairman of the Rules Committee. "The personal
excitement of being elected to the board is overshadowed by the awe that Ihave for the present board members and their commitment to our kids," DeJana said. "I hope that I can be a voice for the state associations. We are not just a national organization; rather, we are a federation of state soccerassociations. We can never forget that US Youth Soccer exists to fill theneeds of the state associations."

Bill Letbetter, past President of the Georgia Youth Soccer Association, waselected to the position of Region III Deputy Director. "Our players [inRegion III] are ever expanding and we all have ideas about how to enhanceprograms and make soccer life better in the South," Letbetter said. "Ianticipate a busy, creative, and rewarding two years ahead of me."

Bob Palmeiro, who began his service to youth soccer as President of theRhode Island Youth Soccer Association and who has been the Region I Director since 1989, was reelected to the position. David Burton, who has held the position of US Youth Soccer Region III Director since 1997 and whopreviously served on the US Youth Soccer Credentials Committee, was reelected Director of Region III. Larry Harmon ran unopposed and was reelected as the Member at Large of the Board of Directors and Roy Smithers ran unopposed and was reelected to the position of US Youth Soccer Treasurer.

Along with the election of officers, the US Youth Soccer membership unanimously approved the 2001-2002 budget. The new budget includes, for the first time since the founding of US Youth Soccer in 1974, a comprehensive marketing and branding program that will kick off the new fiscal year beginning September 1st. The marketing program also includes the hiring of four new regional marketing coordinators to develop, organize, and extend marketing and sponsorship initiatives into the four regions of US Youth Soccer.
