USL announces cancellation of the 2002 Umbro Select Youth Tournament
The United Soccer Leagues have cancelled the 2002 Umbro Select Youth Tournament that was scheduled for the first weekend of February in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Due to the tragedy, other sports organizations have postponed their events until the first weekend of February. Umbro Select has decided to move their event to the second weekend of February. Rather than compete with these events and the uncertainty of travel logistics for teams during the second weekend of February, USL felt that it is best to cancel the youth tournament part of the Umbro Select event in 2002.
USL also released the following which raises the question as to why the Youth Tournament was chosen to be cancelled if there is so much interest?
