November 14, 2001 Plano, Texas to host USYS National ODP Championships 2002 feature ‘84, ‘86 age groups US Youth Soccer star players will be playing at the 2002 National US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Championships, March 7-10 at Russell Creek Park in Plano, Texas. Teams from Regions I, II and III have already qualified for the championships. The Region IV qualifying tournament will take place January 18-21 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In Region I the Eastern Pennsylvania (‘84 Girls) and Eastern New York (‘86 Girls) won their respective categories. Girls from two different State Associations will represent Region II, as Michigan ‘84 Girls, and Indiana ‘86 Girls both qualified for the championships. The Michigan ‘84 Girls hope to continue their State Association’s winning streak as their ‘82 Girls (2000) and ‘83 Girls (2001) won top honors at previous tournaments. The North Texas ‘84 Girls and South Texas ‘86 Girls are Region III qualifiers. Teams representing California Youth Soccer Association - South are considered strong favorites for Region IV. In the previous two National ODP Championships, Cal-South has claimed seven of eight possible seeds with five of those teams returning home with gold. Russell Creek Park, one of Plano’s largest and most well equipped facilities, includes soccer fields, baseball diamonds, hike-and-bike trails and more. It was the site of the 2000 SNICKERS® US Youth Soccer Region III Championships.
