2001 US Youth Soccer All-American Team to begin four-game European tour on April 5th

President of US Youth Soccer, David Messersmith will be Head of Delegation of the team. They will play in Germany, Holland, Belgium and England. The Under-17 girls' team will play a Bundesliga (Germany's premier division) Women's team, the Dutch U-17 National Team, Belgian Women's League leading club Standard Liege, and the semi-professional English First Division Fulham Ladies team with three Norway National Team players and three English National Team players.

In addition to Team Manager and National Girls Olympic Development Program Chairman Kay Catlett Catlett, will be Team Administrator Cherry Murphy from North Carolina, and Peter Drab from Illinois as the Athletic Trainer.

Made up of 18 players from all over the United States, the roster was
selected by the U-19 World Championship Team National Coach Tracey Leone,
and will be coached by University of Portland Men's and Women's and 2001
Men's Olympic Team Coach Clive Charles, University of Texas Goalkeeping
Coach Jen Renola, and US Youth Soccer Region II Girls Head Coach Tom
Turner.

The athletes were chosen for their performances at the 2000 National ODP
Interregional last November, and the US Youth Soccer/adidas Cup last May.
They are considered among the strongest players in the 1984 age group.

In 2002, FIFA, the soccer world's governing body, will host its World
Championship for Under-19 Women (born in 1983 and younger), and the players on this trip will be under consideration for that team.
