27th minute Japan Game Japan took to the field with a strong game in the first half. Japanese forward Ohno Shinobu started things off in the 8th minute with a clear shot into the Canadian net against a diving save from the keeper. In the 27th minute, Canadian midfielder Lise Backman took advantage of confusion in box by the Japanese who were unable to clear the ball, resulting in the first Canadian goal of the match. The second half of the match opened with a much-needed summer evening breeze, cooling the crowds while play on the field heated up. Japanese player Yano Kyoko, unable to get through the Canadian defense attempted a creative shot, scooping the ball over the heads of the defenders, but the keeper easily caught the pass. Japan was unable to break through the defense as the match drew to a close. In the 89th minute, Canadian player Amy Vermuelen shot a rocket into center net from a free kick. The Japanese Keeper dove for the save, but came up short, ending the game 2-1 Canada.
