US Youth Soccer adidas All Star team off to Europe
The 18-player roster is comprised of some of the top players in the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) and many are among the U.S. Under-17 Women's National Team pool.
Four players - New Jersey State Youth Soccer Association's Yael Averbuch, South Carolina Youth Soccer Association's Lindsey Beam, California Youth Soccer Association - South's Caroline Dew, and California Youth Soccer
Association - North's Valarie Henderson - all competed for the inaugural U.S. U-17 Women's National Team at the 2002 US Youth Soccer ODP Thanksgiving Interregional In Boca Raton, Fla.
Additionally, Dew, Gina Farias-Eisner, and Heather Young all played for the California Youth Soccer Association - South '85 state team at the 2003 US Youth Soccer ODP National Championships, while Averbuch and Elizabeth Reed
both played for the New Jersey State Youth Soccer Association '85 state team that finished second at that event.
The US Youth Soccer adidas All Stars will play Recklinghausen on April 21 before facing its toughest opponent on the tour - FCR Duisberg - at R.W. Oberhausen Stadium on April 23. Duisberg features six players from Germany's National Team as well as national team players from several other countries including Poland and Holland, and is the only team that beat the US Youth Soccer adidas All Star team during its 2001 tour.
In between training and matches, at least one day of sightseeing in Amsterdam is has been planned, and will include a canal cruise, and tours of a clog and cheese farm and a windmill in Rembrantsplein. The players will also have the opportunity to attend a professional match in Germany.
