USYouth Soccer adidas All Star team blanks German club Recklinghausen

April 21, 2003

Four players scored as the US Youth Soccer adidas All Star team beat German club Recklinghausen, 4-0, in

their opening match of the European tour.

South's Laurie Gartrell (La Jolla, Calif.) scored first in the 38th minute when she beat two defenders, and buried a

left-footed shot into the side netting. Ali Cristoph (Columbus, Ohio) added another with a rocket from 18 yards just three minutes later, after receiving the ball from Katherine Krambeer (Brooklyn Park, Minn.).

Zoe Bouchelle (Cockeysville, Md.) toe-poked the ball in off a corner kick by Elizabeth "Lizzie" Reed (Franklin Lakes, N.J.). Lisa DeCote (Fredericksburg, Va.) finished the scoring in the 80th minute she won the ball at midfield and caught the Recklinghausen goalkeeper off her line with a 30-yard shot.

The team plays at R.W. Oberhausen Stadium on Wednesday against the toughest opponent on the tour - FCR Duisberg. In 2001, Duisberg, which features six players from Germany's Women's National Team as well as national team players from several other countries, beat the US Youth Soccer adidas All Star team, 5-1.
