US Youth Soccer announces partnership with Soccer in the Streets®

US Youth Soccer announced that it will partner with Atlanta-based Soccer in the Streets® to provide and enhance soccer opportunities for inner city, rural and underprivileged youth.

Soccer in the Streets® (S.I.T.S.) and US Youth Soccer's SoccerStartTM are two nationally recognized organizations whose common goal is to educate and improve the lives of children through the game of soccer. This
unprecedented partnership creates a "soccer synergy" that will enable both programs to be more effective and to reach more children. Seven targeted U.S. cities will realize a direct effect from this collaboration, which in turn will lead to 3,500 more children kicking a soccer ball in these cities. Through specially tailored programs and available resources, at-risk children will be encouraged to examine the choices they make in life and how those choices will impact their future.

Soccer in the Streets® is a non-profit agency that develops soccer, educational, and life-skills programs for disadvantaged youth in their communities. Soccer in the Streets® specializes in introducing soccer to young people while involving their parents and the community in the development and implementation. Since its inception in 1989, S.I.T.S. has introduced soccer to thousands of inner-city youth in more than 75 U.S. cities. S.I.T.S. is rooted in the philosophy that the sport, in its simplicity, can provide children with viable, cost-effective, recreational programs.

"These items should allow both organizations to reap maximum benefit from the relationship," Jim Cosgrove, executive director of US Youth Soccer said. "US Youth Soccer anticipates and is excited about partnering with Soccer in the Streets to bring soccer to many more children."

Both US Youth Soccer and S.I.T.S. are excited about the countless opportunities that this partnership will bring to both organizations. The partnership will allow both to provide more educational opportunities for members through regional and national meetings and conferences, along with granting more access to communication networks, members and partnerships.

"This agreement will allow our organizations to expand opportunities in our services provided to kids. Together the organizations will further the game in the United States through an increased talent pool," said S.I.T.S. executive director, Albert Stokes. "More importantly, we will shape the lives of our young people through soccer, mentoring and life skills. This is truly a landmark partnership."
