June 5, 2001 US Youth Soccer 3 Finland 1 at adidas 2001 Meyer Park, Spring,
Texas Scoring Finland
Referee:
Sarah Kraus The US team got
things started with an opportunistic goal by Kacey White in the 13th minute.
White took advantage of a free kick on the Finnish team while they were
organizing a wall, and shot straight past the forming line-up into the
net. Finland answered in the 30th minute when Annica Sjolund got a pass
in behind the US defense, outran the last defender and slotted the ball
by the US Goalkeeper. Fifteen minutes later, US player Kacey White took
a nice run on the ball coming out of midfield. Teammate Kristi Lefebrre
took the assist with a post up and shot calmly by the Finnish Keeper. "I think a 2-1 score here becomes a dangerous situation and anything can happen" said US Youth Soccer head coach, Sue Ryan. "For us to continue playing and not sit on that lead in this heat shows a lot about what they've done."
