The U.S. Under-19 National Team exploded for nine first half goals en
route to an 11-1 victory at Birchmount Stadium.
The U.S. attack was unstoppable as they built a 5-0 lead after just 15
minutes.
The U.S. U-19 women are building towards the first ever FIFA world championship
for youth woman that will be held in Canada during the summer of 2002.
The USA will attempt to qualify for the tournament sometime in 2002 with
the dates and venues to be determined.
The young U.S. team did not let up and came at Canada the entire match.
"The team was very
motivated and inspired to play Canada for the second time," said U.S.
U-19 Head Coach Tracey Leone. "They were excited about the challenge of
solving Canada's high restraining line and high goalkeeper that we struggled
with in the last game. Our 3-4-3 formation gave us better possession on
the flanks and the ability for more players to beat their flat back four.
We had players coming from everywhere and we were unpredictable. And we
finished incredibly well."
"Just having these
two games under our belt has made us a better team," added Leone. "We
couldn't have benefited more from coming here and being in Canada where
the youth World Cup will be held. We wanted to make Canada our home in
a small way and that comfort will help us down the road."
