For the 18th time out of 19 semi-finals North Carolina goes to the Championship Game with 2-1 upset of top seeded Notre Dame


UNC (20-3-0) defeated the previously undefeated University of Notre Dame (23-1-1), 2-1, in the semifinals to advance to Sunday's national championship game against the winner of the Portland-UCLA semifinal contest.

In an evenly played game Notre dame scored first at 19:48 when senior forward Meotis Erikson passed to freshman forward Amy Warner who was breaking past the UNC defense. Warner dribbled it in and shot it past Carolina goalkeeper Jenni Branam, who had come out to challenge. At 65 minutes Kim Patrick got the equalizer for the Tar Heels when she headed in a ball from a corner kick by Kluegel UNC scored the game-winner with just 7:27 left in regulation when Jordan Walker scored from 17 yards.
