USC signs four players to letters-of-intent for 2001 season

Midfielder/forward Megan Kakadelas and defender Kaitly Pruett of La Costa Canyon High in Carlsbad, Calif., midfielder/forward Ashley Casas of Capistrano Valley High in Mission Viejo, Calif., and midfielder Carolyn Staples of Calvary Chapel High in Santa Ana, Calif., have signed letters-of-intent to play at USC for the 2001 season.

"This is an outstanding class," said USC Head Coach Millinder. "They all possess the ability to be top-notch Division I players. I feel certain that they will all make an immediate impact and all of them will have the chance to start right away."

Player biographies

Megan Kakadelas

Kakadelas has been a member of several state and regional Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams. She was named to the NSCAA Under-17 All-America first team and earned second team All-CIF and first team All Avocado League honors in 2000. She is a member of the San Diego Surf U 18 club and was a member of last year's U-17 national championship squad. Kakadelas has been a member of her high school's honor roll all four years.

Kaitlyn Pruett

Pruett has been a member of the regional ODP team the last three years. Along with Kakadelas, she is a member of the San Diego Surf U-18 club and was a member of last year's U-17 national championship squad. In her junior year, Pruett earned first team All-CIF and All-Avocado League honors. She was named her team's best defensive player in her sophomore year. Pruett is a California Scholastic Federation recipient.

Ashley Casas

Casas was a member of the U-16 and U-17 National Teams and has played in six international matches. She was a member of the Elite Soccer Program All-Star team and has played on several state and regional ODP teams. This year, she was named a Parade All-American. In her junior year at Capistrano Valley High, Casas earned second team All-CIF and all-county honors, along with being named to the All-South Coast League first team. Casas has played club soccer the last four years for the Southern California Blues. She was a member of the national runners-up U-15 and U-16 teams. Casas was on her high school's honor roll the last two years and was a Golden State Scholar award recipient.

Carolyn Staples

Staples played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Santa Margarita High in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., before transferring to Calvary Chapel. She is currently playing for the Southern California Blues Under-18 club, based out of San Juan Capistrano
