Aleisha
Cramer named as best girl soccer player in the United States by Gatorade
Gatorade in partnership
with Scholastic Coach & Athletic Director magazine named Aleisha
Cramer of Green Mountain High School in Lakewood as the Gatorade National
High School Soccer Player of the Year on Friday, February 3, 2000.
Her achievements
on and off the field are impressive. She is recognized as one of the elite
young women's soccer players in the country. This season she was named
the Parade Player of the Year, as well as the NSCAA/Adidas Player of the
Year. She helped lead her team to the past three state championship matches,
bringing home titles in both 1997 and this past year, 1999. She has been
playing on national teams for the past three years, and most recently
traveled to Australia as a member of the triumphant U.S. Women's National
Team that won the Australia Cup Tournament.
She carries a 4.0
GPA, and has been involved with her school's Student Senate. Cramer has
volunteered her time to both school and church activities, including volunteer
fundraising efforts for Muscular Dystrophy research.
"We believe that
true success in high school athletics is predicated on more than just
skill," said Gatorade Vice President of Sports Marketing, Tom Fox. "While
Gatorade athletes are the best in their sports, being a winner also means
having character, being a leader and caring as much about your test scores
as your games scores. "
Gatorade
announces State High School Girls Soccer Players of the year
Gatorade in partnership
with Scholastic Coach & Athletic Director magazine yesterday announced
its State High School Boys and Girls Soccer Player of the Year awards.
The athletes, representing 49 states (South Dakota has no formal program)
and the District of Columbia, are the latest inductees into the Gatorade
Circle of Champions and are finalists for the prestigious Gatorade National
High School Soccer Player of the Year award, which will be announced on
March 3 for girls.
The 100 winners from
across the nation, selected by a panel of sport-specific experts as well
as a National Media Advisory Board, were chosen based on their outstanding
accomplishments on the field. In addition to athletic performance, the
award's criteria includes the athlete's achievement in the classroom and
the community.
